It's been quite a tumultuous 24 hours in the life of Selena Gomez.

Yesterday, the world learned that Selena is dating the Weeknd.

It was big news, and not only because it means that a dude named after a period of time is slowly gaining Legendary Ladies' Man status.

He probably wouldn't be as successful if his name was the Tuesdy.

Anyway, the relationship has complicated Selena's social life in a number of predictable ways.

The most obvious of which is that Selena's friendship with Bella Hadid appears to be through.

Bella dated the Weeknd for much of last year, and they only just ended their relationship in December.

So it didn't come as much of a surprise when Bella unfollowed Selena on Instagram shortly after the news that she's working for the Weeknd went public.

We'd say this is all teen-caliber drama, but Bella is only a year removed from her teens, so we guess it makes sense.

The important thing is that Selena isn't letting all these distractions prevent her from doing what she does best.

Okay, we guess technically singing is what she does best, but having a bangin' body has gotta be a close second:

As though that pic needs any explanation, it's Selena posing in a thong for celebrity photographer Mert Alas, who's second only to Terry Richardson in his impressive ability to get famous people to take their clothes off.

It's hard to believe that anyone could object to such a thing of beauty, but believe it or not, the pic has drawn a fair bit of criticism.

Some folks have called Selena out for hypocrisy, as she discouraged other young women from posting explicit pics at the AMAs just two months ago:

“I don’t want to see your bodies on Instagram. I want to see what’s in [your heart],” Selena said, during her acceptance speech for the awkwardly-titled Favorite Female Artist- Pop/Rock award.

“I’m not trying to get validation, nor do I need it anymore.”

We'd echo the complaints that Ms. Gomez isn't practicing what she preaches, but ... #DatAss.

She should give an acceptance speech every time she catches a glimpse of that booty in the mirror.

It is so totally on between Bella Hadid and Selena Gomez.

Earlier this week, Gomez was spotted out on a date with The Weeknd.

Multiple sources confirmed that the artists enjoyed a private dining experience at a hotspot in Los Angeles, with cameras capturing them kissing and hugging on the sidewalk shortly after the meal was over.

An insider says they then went back to Selena's home to presumably... get to know each other bed.

Hubba. Hubba.

That was our reaction, at least.

But Hadad has seemingly responded in a very different way, unfollowing Gomez on Instagram in light of Selena not just dating The Weeknd - but being so open about it.

You see, Hadid and The Weeknd were a romantic item for nearly two years, splitting up in late 2016.

So it would be understandably painful for Hadid to deal with her serious ex-boyfriend dating anyone else so quickly after their split.

But Bella and Selena are kind of friends. They are both members of Taylor Swift's Squad, making the whole situation even more awkward for everyone involved.

(Yet more entertaining for all of us not involved, let's be honest.)

Following her PDA-filled evening out with her rumored new beau, Gomez posed for an especially racy photo on social media.

It went viral on Thursday, it features her wearing a thong and very little else and you may very well drool all over your keyboard upon seeing it again.

Don't say we didn't warn you!

Mere hours after this Selena picture made the Internet rounds, Hadid returned from the Bahamas, where she had been taking part in her first photo shoot of 2017.

Once she got back to California on Thursday, Hadid went ahead and posted her own X-rated video on Instagram, showing off her killer body in a tiny black one-piece swimsuit.

We've taken a screen shot of the footage below, which included the following words from Hadid:

“Goodnight. Love and light to you all… happy to be home.”

It's pretty hard not to see this as a clear rebuttal to Gomez, wouldn't you agree?

Is Bella actively trying to show The Weeknd what he's now missing?

Is she trying to silence Selena? To prove scoff at her attempts to be seductive when Hadid acts sultry and seductive for a living?

We can't say for certain.

We just doubt it's a coincidence that Gomez makes her romance with The Weeknd very public... then shares a scantily-clad picture on social media... and then Hadid does the exact same thing.

There's clearly some kind of one-upmanship attempt going on here.

And we love it! This is the best kind of celebrity feud!

Will Selena reply? Will she take off ALL of her clothes to do so? Will Hadid make a sex tape with another man in response?

On Thursday, just as the Internet was coming to grips with Selena and The Weeknd going on a hot and heavy date that allegedly ended with them in Gomez's bed, the singer posed for a picture in nothing but her underwear.

It was a very good look for her, we must admit.

Now, as shared above, the artist is fully clothed and not staring into any mirrors.

She's simply showing off a shorter haircut, one that features her brown hair hanging down to just past her chin.

Granted, it pales in nearly-naked comparison to the sultry snapshot below, but it still feels worth noting - and here's why:

Gomez spent a chunk of last fall in rehab.

She told fans that side effects of her Lupus diagnosis were interfering with her work and her mental state and that she needed to take a break.

Which may very well have been true.

But it's hard to imagine that these side effects were not also brought on by her turbulent relationship with Justin Bieber.

The exes got into a viral fight over the summer after Selena butted into Bieber's romance with Sofia Richie, telling her fellow artist to stop complaining about his fans treating Richie with disrespect.

Selena blamed Justin for any online harassment Richie was receiving because he was the one who made their relationship public.

Sources say Bieber got angry at Gomez for this interjection and the two subsequently had another falling out.

Not long afterward, Gomez took her hiatus from the spotlight.

We say all this because Selena is now very clearly back... and perhaps better than ever.

She's clearly very confident in where her life is at the moment, flaunting both her romance with The Weeknd and also her body for all to see.

She doesn't even seem to care that Bella Hadid is taking issue with Selena and The Weeknd being rumored new lovers.

She's just doing her thing, finally self-assured enough to not let others bring her down.

As for her hair? Gomez has used Marino as her stylist for years.

She told Elle.com in November that she thinks her hair actually looks better when it's "a little dirty" and explained her secrets behind it as follows:

"I'll use Pantene — the one I have right now is Expert Intense Hydration, which is really nice because everywhere I go has been kind of dry. I don't do conditioner.

"The relationship with Abel is fresh and new for Selena, but she can tell things are completely different from any of her previous relationships.”

Last year, Selena checked into rehab in order to receive treatment for a number of emotional issues.

The source says her relationship with The Weeknd/Abel has been instrumental in helping Selena turn the corner with regard to her mental health.

“For the first time in a long time, Selena has her confidence back and she credits that to having Abel in her life," the insider says.

"She is healthier than she has been in a long time and having an honest relationship has a lot to do with her feeling so strong.

"Abel makes Selena feel secure and she sees this as her first mature relationship as an adult.”

For his part, Justin is hooking up with Kourtney Kardashian again, which makes this whole situation even weirder.

24-year-old Selena thinks he's too immature for an adult relationship, but 37-year-old mother of three Kourtney apparently just can't keep away from the dude.

According to a new report, Selena Gomez has truly fallen for The Weeknd.

Mere days after she was first spotted in public with her new man, Selena is allegedly telling friends that she's never felt this strongly for a man before.

No, not even when it came to Justin Bieber.

Things with The Weeknd are "completely different" than they were with Bieber, an insider tells Hollywood Life, implying that Gomez and her fellow artist are involved in a very serious relationship.

And how does this make Bieber feel?

Is he sad? Shocked? Angry? Jealous?

Nope, none of the above, according to TMZ.

He actually finds the whole thing pretty comical.

Despite what outlets such as Us Weekly and E! News have reported, and despite photographs showing Gomez kissing and hugging The Weeknd after a romantic date in Los Angeles last week, Bieber simply isn't buying this relationship.

He doesn't think it's based on any actual feelings.

A source tells TMZ that Bieber thinks Selena is simply using The Weekd for publicity and promotional purposes.

Gomez is reportedly working on new music and also reportedly working on new music with The Weeknd.

Bieber therefore thinks she's doing the same thing here as she did with Nick Jonas and with Zedd; that is, she's simply dating whomever it is she's collaborating with.

Maybe there's some attraction there, sure. Maybe it's a dalliance based on mutual feelings that have developed over the course of spending a lot of time together.

But the real thing? The L Word? Anything more than a brief romantic interlude?

Bieber basically rolls his eyes at these notions.

If Gomez has not fallen cute head over pretty heels for The Weeknd, then she's risking her reputation for no solid reason.

Back in November, Selena Gomez left rehab after receiving nearly two months of in-patient treatment.

There's disagreement about the reasons behind her stint in the Tennessee facility, but regardless of what prompted her to seek helps, the consensus in the therapeutic community is that the singer is still in an extremely vulnerable spot.

Perhaps that's why Selena's fans, friends, and family are so concerned by the news that the young singer is dating The Weeknd.

You don't have to be up on the latest tabloid drama surrounding The Weeknd (real name: Abel Tesfaye) to know that the wildly talented 26-year-old is frequently associated with clubbing and hard drug use.

Tesfaye's biggest hit, 2015's "Can't Feel My Face" is basically an extended cocaine metaphor, and while he's reportedly scaled back the partying in recent years, he's also coyly admitted that some of his vices remain.

It's not hard to see why many of her loved ones feel that Selena's relationship with The Weeknd is poorly timed, at best.

“Some of Selena’s close friends and family want to stage an intervention before it’s too late,” a source close to the 24-year-old pop star told Radar.

“They fear that this is going to end well.”

The source adds that Selena's inner circle has made an effort to convince her to hold off on the relationship until she's in a more stable place in her life.

Now, however, it seems that these two are the real deal, and for a while there, they weren't shying away from sharing their love on social media.

The new couple is currently on a romantic getaway in Florence, Italy, and Selena took time to share a highlight of the trip with her millions of Instagram followers.

Just last week, Selena and Abel enjoyed an outing at Dave and Buster's alongside Jaden Smith and French Montana.

Tesfaye posted several pictures from the event, which makes sense, because when you get that random of a crew together, you have to share it with the world.

When Selena posted video from the Italian vacay, however, it didn't last very long.

The footage above appeared on her IG page last night, and this morning it as gone.

It's anyone's guess as to what that may mean, but not surprisingly, fans are already speculating.

Naturally, there are those who think it's an indication that the couple has already broken up.

That's reading quite a bit into things, but it would explain a lot.

After all, something happened in the past 12 hours that prompted Selena to delete a video that she shot and posted herself.

Of course, everything Ms. Gomez does is the subject of intense online scrutiny, so not surprisingly, there's more than one theory regarding what prompted her to remove the clip.

Shortly after the video was deleted, Selena posted a quote from Ashton Kutcher addressing Donald Trump's controversial ban on immigration from seven Muslim countries.

"Everyone in airports that belong in my America: You are the part of the fabric of who we are, and we love you and we welcome you,”  Kutcher said at last night's SAG Awards.

Some believe Selena was simply trying to shift the focus from her relationship to this country's ongoing human rights crises.

But we're not sure why that would necessitate deleting an innocuous clip of her boyfriend.

Or official theory remains that these two have already hit a rough patch, but we're not pronouncing the relationship dead just yet.

In bullet points underneath this main headline, the unreliable tabloid says Gomez is having “cravings,” coming up with “baby names” and pondering “details” about her “wedding” to The Weeknd.

Family and friends apparently recently learned of this “shocking development,” although both Bella Hadid and Bieber are trying to “break” the couple “up.”

Gomez and The Weeknd are actually dating. This much is not really up for dispute.

The artists went public with their romance in mid-January when they held hands and kissed outside of a restaurant in Los Angeles.

Since then, Gomez has come under some fire because she's pretty good friends with Hadid, who previously dated The Weeknd for about two years.

According to a TMZ source, Gomez and her relatively new boyfriend started their romance not long after he and Hadid split, with Selena not saying a word to Hadid about it until the latter saw photos on the Internet.

If that's true, it was not Selena's best move.

Hadid is no longer following Gomez on Instagram and has released a handful of sexy photos online in recent days, seemingly as a way to taunt The Weeknd.

But he and Selena appear to be undeterred.

They've been spotted hanging out at Dave & Buster's and even jetted off for a romantic getaway in Italy.

Things are definitely moving fast between the stars, but does this mean Gomez is expecting a baby and the two are planning a wedding? We can't say for certain.

And he may have even just issued some kind of threat against her.

We don't want to jump to any conclusions here, but The Weeknd Tweeted a cryptic message yesterday afternoon that has fans reeling and wondering.

"playing with me is a dangerous game," reads the Tweet in question.

Is he referring to Gomez here? If so, what did she do? If so, what is the artist saying he'll do in response?!?

Gomez and The Weeknd got together toward the end of 2016.

Ssome reports have claimed that things are already serious between the couple (like, REALLY SERIOUS between the couple).

Others have alleged that Selena is merely using her new man.

The argument on this side, one supposedly espoused by Justin Bieber among others, goes something along these lines:

Selena has been battling health problems and out of the spotlight for a few months, and is about to release new music.

She's therefore pretending to be involved in an intense romance with The Weeknd to garner headlines and indirectly promote her upcoming album.

We can't say for certain whether this is accurate.

But The Weeknd referencing - negatively - how someone is "playing" with him would lend credence to the theory, wouldn't it?

According to celebrity gossip site In Touch Weekly, however, there are indeed problems between Selena and The Weeknd.

But they are unrelated to any notion of the 24-year-old Gomez using her R&B star boyfriend for professional reasons.

The tabloid recently quoted a source who says Gomez has been going full Stage 5 Clinger, "suffocating" The Weeknd.

She's been pushing to accompany him on his Starboy: Legend of the Fall 2017 world tour, which he's hesitant about.

"Selena is begging to join him," this tabloid writes, adding:

"He likes her, but he feels like she’s moving way too quickly."

"Selena’s paranoid that fans will be throwing themselves at The Weeknd and he’ll be tempted to stray."

Moreover, she's "so scared that she’s threatened to dump him if he doesn’t let her come along on tour."

So what we have here is two contrasting theories. Gomez is either...

1. Using The Weeknd and doesn't like him very much and he's angry.
2. Really in love with The Weeknd and drivig him sort of insane as a result.

That would so not be what Gomez needs right now, not after all those years of going back and forth with Justin Bieber.

A previous article written by Hollywood Life, though, says Selena is actually more serious about The Weeknd than she ever was about Bieber.

“Selena is feeling things she never felt before with The Weeknd," claims this insider, concluding:

“For the first time in a long time, Selena has her confidence back and she credits that to having Abel in her life."

"She is healthier than she has been in a long time and having an honest relationship has a lot to do with her feeling so strongly.

Bottom line: Bieber was just a boy. This is a man.

The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) "makes Selena feel secure and she sees this as her first mature relationship as an adult.”

We just don't want to see Selena get hurt again. No one does. We want her to be happy and that includes finding true love.

We just hope she's thinking everything through.

Selena Gomez has been out of rehab for just over two months now, and she's been an absolute inspiration.

Well, she's always been an absolute inspiration, but you know what we mean.

Ever since she left her treatment center, she's been ever more open and honest about the issues she's faced with her mental health, and how important it is for people to take care of and to love themselves.

And it's been such a delight to see.

These days, Selena is focused on promoting a Netflix series she executive-produced called 13 Reasons Why, based on the novel of the same name. The show debuts next month.

The book, written by Jay Asher, is about a teenager who killed herself and left a series of tapes explaining why -- the thirteen reasons she did it, it turns out, were thirteen people who'd hurt her in some way.

And in this new interview, Selena is explaining exactly why the subject matter hit home for her.

"Whether I like it or not," she said, "a lot of people have watched me grow up, and I do feel like, I have these conversations with my fans."

"I've never really wanted to be the kind of unapproachable person."

And so, she continued, "Whether I like it or not, people have seen a lot of my mistakes and I had to use that as a good thing, because then they're able to trust me."

"I want to be a part of this," she said, "because I think this is what they want, this is what they need."

She thinks a series like this is especially what young people need these days because "We're just so disconnected from people now. Teens just really want [that connection]."

"I can't stand what they're looking at and what they think is reality," she went on, referencing social media. "There are 17-year-olds that look older than me and that freaks me out."

Another reason Selena connected with the project what that, as she says, "I think that my own high school experience was amplified. I wouldn't say it was worse, but it made it harder."

She's talking, of course, about the "high school experience" she had while working on the Disney show Wizards of Waverly Place.

"Whether it was just kids or growing up in the biggest high school in the world, which was the Disney Channel, it was also adults that had the audacity to kind of tell me how I should live my life," she said.

"It was very confusing for me. I had no idea what I was going to be, what I'm still going to become."

And finally, Selena had one more reason for believing in the show -- her time in rehab.

"To be frank with you," she explained, "I actually was going through a really difficult time when they started production."

"I went away for 90 days, and I actually met a ton of kids in this place that were talking about issues that these characters are experiencing."

We're so glad that Selena is dedicating her time and talent to something that means so much to her.

And, to hear her tell it, it really means so very, very much.

"I was there for the last episode," she recalled. "I was a mess just seeing it all come to life, because I've experienced just that for sure. It hits a very important part of me."

Oh, what a gift this girl is.

According a recent report, Justin Bieber may have headbutted some dude inside a restaurant last week.

But while we wait to see if the singer gets in trouble for this alleged act, we can say one thing for certain:

Selena Gomez definitely just slammed her ex-boyfriend in her latest single, "It Ain't Me."

The artist teams up with someone named "Kygo" for the track, belting out lyrics that pretty clearly take aim at a former lover.

Gomez (obviously) does not cite Bieber by name, nor has she even commented on her fellow artist in quite some time.

But Selena is now dating The Weeknd, with sources saying the relationship is growing more and more serious every hour.

She's at a place where she's content with a new man, more confident than ever before... and clearly down with putting Bieber on blast.

Gomez concludes her slamming of Bieber (sorry: whomever is the subject of this single) by singing:

Hmmm... who was Selena dating when she was a care-free teenager, with whom she may have some good memories but with whom she also went through some terrible times?

Earlier in the week, The Weeknd also appears to direct some musical venom at Bieber.

He got a tad more X-Rated in his apparent diss track, singing a verse on Nav’s new track, “Some Way,” that partially goes as follows:

I think your girl fell in love with me. She say my f-ck and my tongue game a remedy.

This bitch got addicted, all she do was take a taste. Now you gettin’ mad because you got replaced.

Bieber has not overly addressed the romance between Selena and The Weend.

But he was asked on Instagram this week about his current favorite song, mentioned The Weeknd's "starboy" and then laughed like an idiot over this amazing joke.

A few weeks prior, not long after news of Selena banging The Weeknd went viral, Bieber allegedly shrugged off the relationship.

Those close to the immature singer said at the time that Bieber didn't take the dalliance seriously, presuming Gomez was simply using The Weeknd to further her music career.

That's a harsh accusation.

With each passing day, it seems more and more likely that Gomez and her new boyfriend are as happy as two people can be.

And this leaves Justin Bieber out in the cold.

Seriously, how long ago does it seem when photos such as the one below were being Liked all over the Internet?

We'll never see these stars cozy up to each other in this manner again, that much is certain.

But will we even see them get along again?

According to a new report, the singers are actually quite serious about each other.

An insider tells Life & Style that Gomez is in the process of looking for a new house.

But it won't just be a house for only herself. Oh, no, it will be a house large enough to support multiple occupants. 

And one of them will be The Weeknd!

"Selena is going to be putting up the money for the house, and she’s going to spare no expense,” the insider tells the tabloid, adding in extreme detail:

“They’re looking in Bel Air, Holmby Hills and Malibu. She wants a big backyard where they can host get-togethers with friends, and she’d love a pool so she can go skinny-dipping with Abel.”

Man. This unnamed individual must really know Gomez well.

Not only is he or she well aware of Selena's real estate interests, but he or she even knows how badly Gomez wants to swim naked with her new man.

Gomez and The Weeknd got together under somewhat controversial circumstances.

The latter had dated Bella Hadid for about two years prior to their break-up last year.

He then got together with Gomez, but sources claim Selena never told Bella about the romance herself; Hadid had to learn about it through the celebrity gossip grapevine.

This was especially hurtful because Bella and Selena are sort of friends. They are both members of Taylor Swift's Squad.

But despite a bit of Instagram shade hurled in her direction by Hadid, Selena is moving full steam ahead with her relationship.

It may be too early to hear any wedding bells, but the artists are apparently set to take the next step.

“It’s going to be their little love nest,” a source tells Life & Style of the mansion Selena is allegedly set to purchase.

Bieber has seem pretty disturbed by his ex-girlfriend moving on in this manner, openly laughing at The Weeknd's music on Instagram, for example.

But Gomez doesn't care.

She's happier than ever.

She and The Weeknd just returned from a vacation to Italy and it sounds like they had a grand time.

"Their trip was bomb," a source told Hollywood Life of their romantic trip abroad.

"They saw some historical sights, laughed, and found this cute little chain length fence and put a love lock on it! The Weeknd loves traveling with her and wants to take her to Toronto next and give her a personal tour of his old stomping grounds."

Maybe they can go skinny dipping there!

Selena Gomez is the undisputed Queen of Instagram.

This is not mere opinion.

The singer ended 2016 as the Most-Liked individual on this social media platform, while she was also featured in 8 of the top 10 most popular Instagram photos last year.

Those are quite the impressive accomplishments.

But heavy is the head that wears this crown.

So explains Gomez in the latest issue of Vogue.

"As soon as I became the most followed person on Instagram, I sort of freaked out," Selena tells the magazine, explaining further:

"It had become so consuming to me. It's what I woke up to and went to sleep to. I was an addict, and it felt like I was seeing things I didn't want to see, like it was putting things in my head that I didn't want to care about."

Sort of fascinating, right?

And also understandable? How this sort of thing can take over someone's life?

"I always end up feeling like shit when I look at Instagram," the 24-year-old admits. "Which is why I'm kind of under the radar, ghosting it a bit."

How did Selena go about solving this problem and improving her mental health in the process?

She actually deleted the app from her phone and says she doesn't know the password for her account.

It's true; her assistant now posts on her behalf.

The decision to step away from the spotlight a bit came after Gomez entered treatment in 2016, which wasn't for addiction, burnout or an eating disorder.

She sort of just needed a break.

"People so badly wanted me to be authentic, and when that happened, finally, it was a huge release. I'm not different from what I put out there," she says.

"I've been very vulnerable with my fans, and sometimes I say things I shouldn't. But I have to be honest with them. I feel that's a huge part of why I'm where I am."

The artist, who previously spent two weeks at a rehab facility in 2014 for Lupus, chose to seek additional help after canceling her Revival tour last summer.

"Tours are a really lonely place for me," she tells Vogue.

"My self-esteem was shot. I was depressed, anxious. I started to have panic attacks right before getting onstage, or right after leaving the stage. Basically I felt I wasn't good enough, wasn't capable.

"I felt I wasn't giving my fans anything, and they could see it - which, I think, was a complete distortion.

"I was so used to performing for kids."

Gomez is back in the news because she's dating The Weeknd.

But she doesn't address that romance in this interview.

If so, it's such a pure, gratifying love, isn't it? And if not ... what's wrong with you? Who hurt you?

She was completely open with her fans last year about the depression and anxiety she'd been dealing with, and after returning from rehab, she's been open about that, too.

And so it just makes sense that in this new video she did with Vogue, she's completely open in answering every single one of these 73 questions.

Selena answers a variety of questions, including things she doesn't like -- she says that a pet peeve of hers is "people who are rude," and the thing that makes her angriest are "people who are entitled."

She also expresses her love for her fans, explaining that "I get to do what I love every single day and it's because of you. Thank you."

She said that if her life were a song, the title would be "I'm Still Figuring It All Out" -- more of that characteristic realness from this girl.

Obviously we can't recount every single answer she gave -- there literally are 73 of them, but rest assured that every last one of them is completely and totally wonderful.

Over three months since Selena Gomez was first spotted kissing The Weeknd and cozying up to her fellow singer in public, the controversial couple has taken its romance to the next level.

Oh, yes, people: 

These two are now Instagram official.

Taking followers by surprise early on Saturday, The Weeknd shared the following sweet photo of his girlfriend giving him a kiss on the cheek.

He didn't include a caption with the image, but that's okay; fans have been more than happy to supply their own commentary.

"AWEEEEE OMGGG IM CRYING THIS IS WHAT I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A SELFIEEEEE OF THE COUPLE," one Internet wrote of the picture, while another added:

“MOM AND DADDY... this pic [gave] us global heart attack we loving it.”

And another: "GOALS ASF."

On Friday night, a few hours before this photo was taken we presume, Gomez and The Weeknd attended a birthday party for Canadian rapper Belly.

The star-studded event — held at a private residence — also included such famous guests as Drake, French Montana, Big Sean, Ashlee Simpson, Evan Ross and Amber Rose.

According to a People Magazine insider, the stars “remained playful and affectionate all night,” even “whispering to one another and smooching.”

The witness went on to say that their "lip-locking never stopped."

It's been quite a ride for Gomez and The Weeknd.

The former received quite a bit of backlash after first getting together with the latter, considering The Weeknd and Bella Hadid had only recently broken up after a two-year long relationship.

Selena and Bella are decent friends and sources have confirmed that Gomez never ran the relationship by her pal.

Hadid reportedly found out about the dating situation via the World Wide Web. Ouch, right?

Since then, Hadid has stopped following Gomez on Instagram and Selena have been the subject of criticism online.

Elsewhere, ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber scoffed at the relationship, allegedly claiming it was a pure PR move meant to boost Selena's career.

For many years, Selena Gomez had to come up with a list of at least 13 reasons why she was dating a douchebag such as Justin Bieber.

No longer, however. The two have been apart for a very long time now.

But the singer has traded in that controversy for a scandal that centers on a Netflix series titled 13 Reasons Why, as she serves as a producer on the surprise smash hit.

13 Reasons Why is officially the most-Tweeted about series of 2017, with a second season very likely on the way.

It's most popular among the same demographic that has supported Gomez for many years; that is, young and impressionable teenage girls.

And herein lies the problem, according to various mental health professionals.

The series tells the story of a high school sophomore named Hannah Baker.

We learn right away that she has committed suicide, while also having recorded a number of audio tapes that she's handed out to those who she believes wronged her, contributing in some way to her fatal decision.

A handful of school districts around the country have sent letters home to parents, urging them to make sure their kids do not watch the show on their own.

At the same time, doctors and psychologists have taken 13 Reasons Why to task for its depiction of suicide, claiming the series glorifies the act and treats it as a form of revenge; as opposed to a serious mental health problem.

“We do not recommend that vulnerable youth, especially those who have any degree of suicidal ideation, watch this series," The National Association of School Psychologists has said in a statement.

Those behind 13 Reasons Why have been forced to come to its defense, with lead writer Brian Yorkey saying the following:

“Many people are accusing the show of glamorizing suicide and I feel strongly - and I think everyone who made the show - feel very strongly that we did the exact opposite.

"What we did was portray suicide and we portrayed it as very ugly and very damaging.”

And now Gomez has also issued a response to the controversy.

"We stayed very true to the book and that's initially what [author] Jay Asher created... a beautifully tragic, complicated yet suspenseful story, and I think that's what we wanted to do," the 24-year old  told the Associated Press, over the weekend, referencing the 2007 novel on which the show is based.

She added:

"We wanted to do it justice and, yeah, [the backlash is] going to come no matter what. It's not an easy subject to talk about, but I'm very fortunate with how it's doing."

Gomez does speak from some experience here.

She has battled mental health issues, even checking into rehab last fall for about five weeks.

"Overwhelmed with the response and love @13reasonswhy is receiving," she wrote on Instagram earlier this month, adding:

"Thank you to each beautiful person who has watched and talked about the message of our show."

Paris Jackson, however, is among the celebrities who are wary of teenagers watching 13 Reasons Why.

The daughter of Michael Jackson has attempted suicide on multiple occasions.

She recently wrote on Instagram that 13 Reasons Why is "an extremely triggering thing to watch" and warned viewers to "only watch this show with caution and keep in mind that it may put you in a dark place."

That's one thing on which every viewer can agree.
